Frequently Asked Questions:

What is Hypnosis?

This is a question I have been asked many times. I often find that individuals have a belief of what they think it is. The information that gave them this belief has come from what they have seen or read over the years. They may think they will be asleep or that they can be made to do something. This is not so: You will be able to hear everything while in hypnosis and you are still in control.

How does Hypnosis/Hynotherapy work?

We all know what it is to fall asleep and to awaken. When doing so we pass through an altered state of consciousness- Hypnosis -but usually we do so, so quickly that we don’t notice it. We can induce this same altered state in the consulting room very easily. You may recall a time when you were trying to remember the name of a place or person. Then as you are falling asleep suddenly the name/memory pops into your mind. It happens that way because in this relaxed state of mind your conscious mind and the subconscious mind can communicate, allowing access to your memory banks. This is why, in the hands of a qualified therapist, hypnosis is a valuable tool helping to uncover hidden problems. Go to Curative Hypnotherapy for more information about this.

Is there a difference between a Hypnotherapist and a Hypnotist?

Don’t confuse a Hypnotherapist with a Hypnotist. A Hypnotherapist is a trained therapist who uses hypnosis as a tool in their toolbox. A Hypnotist is not a therapist i.e. Stage Hypnotists use 'hypnotism' for entertainment purposes.
